plastic in our daily life
Number 1 Plastics
PET or PETE (polyethylene terephthalate)
Found in: Soft drink, water and beer bottles; mouthwash bottles; peanut butter containers; salad dressing and vegetable oil containers; ovenable food trays.
Recycling: Picked up through most curbside recycling programs.
Recycled into: Polar fleece, fiber, tote bags, furniture, carpet, paneling, straps, (occasionally) new containers
PET plastic is the most common for single-use bottled beverages, because it is inexpensive, lightweight and easy to recycle. It poses low risk of leaching breakdown products. Recycling rates remain relatively low (around 20%), though the material is in high demand by remanufacturers.
Number 2 Plastics
HDPE (high density polyethylene)
Found in: Milk jugs, juice bottles; bleach, detergent and household cleaner bottles; shampoo bottles; some trash and shopping bags; motor oil bottles; butter and yogurt tubs; cereal box liners
Recycling: Picked up through most curbside recycling programs, although some allow only those containers with necks.
Recycled into: Laundry detergent bottles, oil bottles, pens, recycling containers, floor tile, drainage pipe, lumber, benches, doghouses, picnic tables, fencing
HDPE is a versatile plastic with many uses, especially for packaging. It carries low risk of leaching and is readily recyclable into many goods.
Number 3 Plastics
V (Vinyl) or PVC
Found in: Window cleaner and detergent bottles, shampoo bottles, cooking oil bottles, clear food packaging, wire jacketing, medical equipment, siding, windows, piping
Recycling: Rarely recycled; accepted by some plastic lumber makers.
Recycled into: Decks, paneling, mudflaps, roadway gutters, flooring, cables, speed bumps, mats
PVC is tough and weathers well, so it is commonly used for piping, siding and similar applications. PVC contains chlorine, so its manufacture can release highly dangerous dioxins. If you must cook with PVC, don’t let the plastic touch food. Also never burn PVC, because it releases toxins.
Number 4 Plastics
LDPE (low density polyethylene)
Found in: Squeezable bottles; bread, frozen food, dry cleaning and shopping bags; tote bags; clothing; furniture; carpet
Recycling: LDPE is not often recycled through curbside programs, but some communities will accept it. Plastic shopping bags can be returned to many stores for recycling.
Recycled into: Trash can liners and cans, compost bins, shipping envelopes, paneling, lumber, landscaping ties, floor tile
LDPE is a flexible plastic with many applications. Historically it has not been accepted through most American curbside recycling programs, but more and more communities are starting to accept it.
Number 5 Plastics
PP (polypropylene)
Found in: Some yogurt containers, syrup bottles, ketchup bottles, caps, straws, medicine bottles
Recycling: Number 5 plastics can be recycled through some curbside programs.
Recycled into: Signal lights, battery cables, brooms, brushes, auto battery cases, ice scrapers, landscape borders, bicycle racks, rakes, bins, pallets, trays
Polypropylene has a high melting point, and so is often chosen for containers that must accept hot liquid. It is gradually becoming more accepted by recyclers.
Number 6 Plastics
PS (polystyrene)
Found in: Disposable plates and cups, meat trays, egg cartons, carry-out containers, aspirin bottles, compact disc cases
Recycling: Number 6 plastics can be recycled through some curbside programs.
Recycled into: Insulation, light switch plates, egg cartons, vents, rulers, foam packing, carry-out containers
Polystyrene can be made into rigid or foam products — in the latter case it is popularly known as the trademark Styrofoam. Evidence suggests polystyrene can leach potential toxins into foods. The material was long on environmentalists’ hit lists for dispersing widely across the landscape, and for being notoriously difficult to recycle. Most places still don’t accept it, though it is gradually gaining traction.
Number 7 Plastics
Miscellaneous
Found in: Three- and five-gallon water bottles, ‘bullet-proof’ materials, sunglasses, DVDs, iPod and computer cases, signs and displays, certain food containers, nylon
Recycling: Number 7 plastics have traditionally not been recycled, though some curbside programs now take them.
Recycled into: Plastic lumber, custom-made products
A wide variety of plastic resins that don’t fit into the previous categories are lumped into number 7. A few are even made from plants (polyactide) and are compostable. Polycarbonate is number 7, and is the hard plastic that has parents worried these days, after studies have shown it can leach potential hormone disruptors.

menarek kan???cited from here
A brilliant project by Leen Sadder, a graduate student at The School of Visual Arts:
"The MISWAK is a tooth-cleaning twig used mainly in the Middle East, Pakistan and India. Traditionally, the top is bitten off with every use to reveal soft bristles similar to that of a toothbrush.
THIS aims to repackage and promote the miswak as an organic, biodegradable, portable, more beneficial substitute for toothpaste and a toothbrush. The biggest challenge was figuring out how to package and market the twig to a contemporary American audience, who would not be entertained with the idea of biting off the top of the stick in order to use it. The solution for this is a cigar-cutter-like cap that peels off the outer layer to reveal the natural bristles, and slices them off after use. It also protects the stick from germs and microbes."
"Along with packaging, a campaign was designed to promote THIS. Using photographs of various sticks and a contrasting photograph of THIS toothbrush in a clean bathroom, a series of posters and print ads was designed to show the simplicity of the product.
In addition, an online campaign was launched which offered to donate a tooth-stick to a person in a developing country with every THIS purchase."

salmon contain high amount mercury???
Though no one has been able to come out with conclusions that can correctly state the threshold level of mercury doses in fish, the Bureau of Health Environmental Toxicity Program has collected data and has categorized the fish in two levels; one that contain high levels of mercury and the other containing very less levels of mercury. Fish that are low in mercury content are recommended for eating. Some fish, like tilefish, swordfish, king mackerel and shark come under the category of high mercury containing fish. Various other shellfish and fish containing lower levels of mercury are tuna, halibut, catfish, oysters, shrimps, crab king etc.
The research carried out was based on a certain number of samples of the fish collected from various sources. This research was just from a sample of hundreds of fish, so we can't confidently say that if we eat the fish of low mercury content, we are saved from the threat of mercury poisoning. It's all just a possibility. However, preferring fish low in mercury content is the safest route to take, in case you include fish very often in your diet.
Mercury Poisoning from Fish: Symptoms
Levels of mercury in the environment increase due to the discharge of gases from chemical and power plant industries. The mercury from the air is deposited into water and there the bacteria convert the element mercury into a dangerous compound methylmercury. The chief reason behind mercury poisoning from fish consumption is the presence of toxic methylmercury. The effects of mercury poisoning depend on the extent of mercury consumed and the time for which the person has been exposed to mercury. Read more on mercury poisoning symptoms.
Mercury poisoning from fish can cause permanent damage to the brain and kidneys. When absorbed by the skin, mercury and its compounds can trigger allergic reactions. If ingested in the body, mercury causes severe renal and gastrointestinal disorders. Pregnant women, infants and children have adverse affects of mercury poisoning from fish, as it hampers the neurological development of the brain. During the pregnancy period, if the mother suffers from mercury poisoning then it can lead to the poor development of the child and he may be born with some defects like poor memory and damaged brain cells. Some more symptoms of mercury poisoning from fish consumption are as follows:
- Vision impairment.
- Numbness in hands and feet.
- Poor coordination of muscles.
- Problems related to speech, walking and the neurological system.
- Muscle weakness.
- Mood swings and erratic behavior.
- Mental imbalance.
In urgent cases of mercury poisoning, it is best to seek hospital care or consult a doctor. The medical experts will perform diagnostic tests and try to expel the poison from the body, by providing various treatments. Some of the treatment methods for mercury poisoning are chelation therapy, activated charcoal, gastric lavage etc. It is to be understood that higher doses of mercury consumption can lead to death, so it is important to take precautions. It is important that we use water filters in our home, for drinking and cooking purposes. Besides mercury spills, consuming freshwater fish is the leading cause of mercury poisoning. Pregnant women and children must especially limit the consumption of fish in their diet. According to experts, a child under 6 years of age must not be fed a little tuna fish more than once a month. For children between 6 to 12 years old, the limit of consumption is twice a month. Even adults must follow a strict regime of one fish meal per week. Identifying the possible sources of mercury poisoning and taking adequate precautionary measures can go a long way in reducing the risk of mercury poisoning.
You may read more onMany states in the US collect data about local fish and provide information about the safety levels of mercury consumption in fish. With the increasing amount of toxicity in the air and water, scientists are worried about the rising concentration of mercury in the fish. The world has seen the threats of Minamata disease in Japan in the past few decades. Minamata disease, a severe mercury poisoning case, first affected Japan in 1956 and has been the cause of deaths of several people. While the US government takes adequate measures to prevent the threats of mercury poisoning, we should exercise control over our diet and possibly avoid consuming too much fish in our diet.

The Most Influential Persons in History
The 100: A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History is a 1978 book by Michael H. Hart, reprinted in 1992 with revisions. It is a ranking of the 100 people who, according to Hart, most influenced human history.
The first person on Hart's list is Muhammad. Hart asserted that Muhammad was "supremely successful" in both the religious and secular realms. He also believed that Muhammad's role in the development of Islam was far more influential than Jesus' collaboration in the development of Christianity. He attributes the development of Christianity to St. Paul, who played a pivotal role in its dissemination.
Muhammad p.b.u.h. The central human figure of Islam, regarded by Muslims as the last messenger and prophet of God. Active as a social reformer, diplomat, humanitarian, philanthropist, merchant, philosopher, orator, legislator, and military leader.

bahaya panadol
Menurutnya lagi, pernah berlaku seorang pramugari menelan terlalu banyak Panadol semasa kedatangan haid kerana tugasnya perlu berdiri sepanjang masa penerbangan. Dia kini baru berumur 30-an tetapi sudah perlu menjalani rawatan buah pinggang (dialisis) setiap bulan.
Alternative Treatment ( Tips )

perihal Ummu Hani' #1
MediaMuslim.Info – Dia bernama Fakhitah, seorang wanita dari kalangan bangsawan Quraisy. Putri paman Rasululloh Shallallohu ‘alaihi wa sallam, Abu Thalib Abdu Manaf bin Abdil Muththalib bin Hasyim bin Abdi Manaf bin Qushay. Ibunya bernama Fathimah bintu Asad bin Hasyim bin Abdi Manaf. Dia saudari sekandung ‘Ali, ‘Aqil dan Ja’far, putra-putra Abu Thalib.
Dia begitu mengerti tentang agungnya hak seorang suami.
Semasa jahiliyah, Rasululloh Shallallohu ‘alaihi wa sallam pernah meminangnya.
“Saya Ummu Hani`, putri Abu Thalib,” jawab Ummu Hani`. Rasululloh Shallallohu ‘alaihi wa sallam pun menyambutnya, “Marhaban, wahai Ummu Hani`!”
Wallohu ta’ala a’lamu bish-shawab.

Eggs recall in U.S. salmonella outbreak
WASHINGTON – A nationwide recall of eggs linked to an outbreak of salmonella that has sickened hundreds of people in three U.S. states has been expanded and now covers 380 million eggs.
The eggs all came from a farm in Iowa linked to salmonella cases in California, Colorado and Minnesota over the last three months, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said.
Affected by the recall are eggs packaged under brand names Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps.
Wright County Egg, of Galt, Iowa, expanded a nationwide recall to 380 million eggs Wednesday from the initial recall of 228 million, the Egg Safety Center said.
Salmonella outbreaks nationwide have increased fourfold since May, sparking an investigation of the foodborne illness in 13 states, said the FDA. No deaths have been reported.
State and local officials were investigating salmonella cases in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas, the FDA said.
The number of salmonella cases reported each week, normally around 50, zoomed to 200 a week since May, the FDA said. Preliminary investigations pointed to eggs from Wright County Egg as a potential source.
Some 266 cases of salmonella in California have been linked to the eggs, Los Angeles County officials said on Tuesday.
“There have been confirmed Salmonella enteritidis illnesses relating to the shell eggs and traceback investigations are ongoing,” Wright County Egg said in a statement.
The company is part of DeCoster Farms, a family-run agribusiness that is a large egg producer. There was no answer to several calls on Wednesday to DeCoster offices in Clarion, Iowa.
The FDA said it was conducting an extensive investigation at the Iowa company, including sampling, a review of records and a search for potential sources of contamination, such as feed.
The egg producer said it was cooperating fully in the investigation and was diverting its eggs to a breaker for pasteurization to kill any harmful bacteria.
Salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain and even more serious illness or death.
The eggs are in cartons of six, 12 or 18 eggs and come from plants identified as P-1026, P-1413 or P-1946 and followed by a number from 136 to 225. The figures are stamped on the end of the carton.
Key facts about salmonella
* Every year, approximately 40,000 cases of salmonella are reported in the United States, and 400 people die.
* People infected with salmonella usually have symptoms that include diarrhea, fever, nausea and stomach cramps that generally start within 12 to 72 hours after they ate infected food. The sickness usually lasts four to seven days.
* Severe infections are possible if salmonella spreads from the intestines to the bloodstream. Infants, the elderly and people with weaker immune systems are more susceptible, and antibiotics may be needed. The infection can cause death unless a person is treated with antibiotics.
* Raw or undercooked meat, poultry and eggs should not be eaten. Fruits, such as tomatoes, should be washed thoroughly.
* Meat and other foods should be kept separate to avoid cross contamination.e
